Age dependency of blood pressure response to antihypertensive treatment: some methodological considerations and observations on five beta-adrenoceptor antagonists under different experimental conditions.

Patient selection, trial design, methodology of blood pressure measurement, experimental conditions, and methods of statistical analysis may be all determinants of real or spurious relationships in clinical hypertension research. Our study of 52 hypertensive subjects, in which we analyzed acute and long-term treatment responses, does not demonstrate an age dependency of blood pressure response to treatment with beta-adrenoceptor antagonists.
