Gastric Cancer is one of the most common malignancies worldwide and the second most common cause of cancer-related mortality. Previous studies revealed several genetic alterations specific to gastric cancer. In this study, we aimed to investigate the diagnostic and prognostic significance of the expression levels of the glypican 5 and glypican 6 genes ( and , respectively) in gastric cancer. For this purpose, and expression was quantitatively determined by quantitative polymerase chain reaction method in normal gastric mucosa and intestinal type gastric adenocarcinoma samples from 35 patients. The expression levels of and were compared between normal and tumor tissues. Additionally, the association of the expression levels in tumor tissues with several clinicopathological parameters was evaluated. Although was not expressed in any of the samples, the expression of , which was detected in both groups, was found to be significantly higher in tumor tissues compared to that in normal samples (P=0.039). However, there was no statistically significant association between expression and any of the clinicopathological parameters investigated (P>0.05). Our findings suggested that an increase in expression levels may be implicated in gastric cancer development, but not in cancer progression.
胃癌是全球最常见的恶性肿瘤之一,也是癌症相关死亡的第二大常见原因。先前的研究揭示了几种胃癌特有的基因改变。在本研究中,我们旨在探讨磷脂酰肌醇蛋白聚糖5(GPC5)和磷脂酰肌醇蛋白聚糖6(GPC6)基因表达水平在胃癌中的诊断和预后意义。为此,采用定量聚合酶链反应方法对35例患者的正常胃黏膜和肠型胃腺癌样本中GPC5和GPC6的表达进行了定量测定。比较了正常组织和肿瘤组织中GPC5和GPC6的表达水平。此外,评估了肿瘤组织中表达水平与几个临床病理参数的相关性。虽然在任何样本中均未检测到GPC5的表达,但在两组中均检测到的GPC6的表达在肿瘤组织中显著高于正常样本(P = 0.039)。然而,GPC6表达与所研究的任何临床病理参数之间均无统计学意义的相关性(P>0.05)。我们的研究结果表明,GPC6表达水平的升高可能与胃癌的发生有关,但与癌症进展无关。
