Abstract

The authors have carried out an experimental study of demineralized osteochondrous allocaps (DOCA) for the arthroplasty of the hip joint. The articular cartilage was removed completely in 10, partly from the head in 5 and from the entire cavity in 2 of the 15 rabbits. The animals were excluded from the experiment at various terms (from 2 weeks to 10 months). It has been morphologically determined that when DOCA were employed, the regeneration of the articular cartilage of the head was most complete in cases of its focal resection. When the articular cartilage of the head was completely removed, the cartilaginous regenerate did not possess the mechanical properties of the normal one and was subjected to secondary degenerative and dystrophic changes. The best results were obtained in cases when plasty of the cavity with DOCA was performed. The signs of regeneration of the cartilage under the DOCA and its absence on the surface without the caps testify to chondroinductive properties of DOCA.
