Diabetes mellitus has been shown in many studies to be associated with reduced bone mass and an increased risk of fracture. Currently, our understanding of how to use exercise effectively in diabetic patients in prevention of osteoporosis is incomplete and has prompted our interest to identify the type of effective osteogenic exercise.
The aim of this study was to compare the changes in handgrip strength and bone metabolism after 6 months between aerobic and resistance exercise training in non-insulin dependent diabetic patients in Jeddah area.
One hundred non-insulin dependent diabetic male patients participated in this study and were divided into two equal groups; the first group (A) received aerobic exercise training, where the second group (B) received resistance exercise training. The program consisted of three sessions per week for six months.
The mean values of serum calcium and Hand grip strength were significantly increased, while the mean values of parathyroid hormone were significantly decreased in both groups .Also, there were significant differences between mean levels of the investigated parameters in group (A) and group (B) after treatment.
Aerobic exercise training on treadmill is appropriate to improve markers of bone metabolism and hand grip strength in non-insulin dependent diabetic patients.

本研究旨在比较吉达地区非胰岛素依赖型糖尿病患者进行有氧运动训练和抗阻运动训练6个月后握力和骨代谢的变化。
100名非胰岛素依赖型糖尿病男性患者参与本研究,被分为两组,每组人数相等;第一组(A组)接受有氧运动训练,第二组(B组)接受抗阻运动训练。该计划为期6个月,每周进行三次训练。
两组患者的血清钙均值和握力均显著增加,而甲状旁腺激素均值均显著降低。此外,治疗后A组和B组研究参数的平均水平之间存在显著差异。
在跑步机上进行有氧运动训练适合改善非胰岛素依赖型糖尿病患者的骨代谢指标和握力。
