Anxiety is a usual and expected occurrence among nursing students. Male students are confronted with additional anxieties, especially in Malawi, due to role expectations for men. A 31-item questionnaire eliciting potentially anxiety provoking situations was presented to the 24 male nursing students at Kamuzu College of Nursing in Lilongwe, Malawi. The results of this small study suggest a high level of anxiety among these male students, and dissatisfaction about the information presented to them upon entering the Nursing Programme. The men felt particular stress about role differences between nurses and other male health workers.
