A microanalysis technique has been developed for the quantitative estimation of proteoglycans in cartilage extracts measuring the spectrophotometric decrease of absorbance of the dye dimethylmethylene blue after complexing with sulfated glycosaminoglycans at 590 nm. The reproducibility of the method is shown investigating the influence of different substances.
