PURPOSE
Independent evaluation of efficacy of P.E.R.F.E.C.T. for PTERYGIUM technique in preventing recurrence after pterygium surgery.
METHODS
Sixty consecutive cases of primary pterygium excision were performed between November 2006 and April 2012 using the P.E.R.F.E.C.T. for PTERYGIUM technique.
RESULTS
Fifty-four (90%) cases were followed up for at least 1 year, and 58 (97%) were followed up for at least 6 months. There was 1 recurrence (1.6%) and 1 complication of an avascular translucent mass.
CONCLUSIONS
To the author's knowledge, this is the first independent report on this technique in the US literature. It verifies that the recurrence rate is very low using the P.E.R.F.E.C.T. for PTERYGIUM technique.
