Clinical competence of nurses working in the neonatal intensive care units together with advancements in medical science and technology increased the survival rate of newborns that need specialized care. To ensure the quality of care and provide the safety of patients, evaluating the clinical competence of nurses seems necessary. This study aimed to evaluate the clinical competence of nurses in the neonatal intensive care units. In this cross-sectional study, 117 nurses working in the neonatal intensive care units of the hospitals affiliated to Tehran University of Medical Sciences were selected by census method. The research tool was Development of Competency Inventory for Registered Nurses questionnaire which completed by self-assessment. The mean clinical competence scores of participants categorized into 3 levels: weak: <225, moderate: 225-273 and good: >273. Data were analyzed by SPSS version 13 using the Pearson correlation coefficient, t-test and Chi-square test. The highest levels of competence were related to critical thinking and research attitude and interpersonal relationships, and the lowest level was related to training and mentoring. There was a direct statistically significant relationship between marital status, employment status, level of interest in working in the neonatal intensive-care units and the clinical competence of nurses. Since the clinical competence of nurses in the Neonatal Intensive Care Units is vital, some variables such as interest in the nursing profession, employment status, the neonatal intensive theoretical and practical training courses and the amount of overtime working hours should be taken into consideration.
新生儿重症监护病房护士的临床能力,以及医学科学技术的进步,提高了需要特殊护理的新生儿的存活率。为确保护理质量并保障患者安全,评估护士的临床能力似乎很有必要。本研究旨在评估新生儿重症监护病房护士的临床能力。在这项横断面研究中,采用普查法选取了德黑兰医科大学附属医院新生儿重症监护病房的117名护士。研究工具是注册护士能力量表问卷,通过自我评估完成。参与者的临床能力平均得分分为三个水平:弱:<225,中等:225 - 273,好:>273。使用SPSS 13版软件,通过Pearson相关系数、t检验和卡方检验对数据进行分析。能力最高的水平与批判性思维、研究态度和人际关系相关,最低水平与培训和指导相关。婚姻状况、就业状况、在新生儿重症监护病房工作的兴趣水平与护士的临床能力之间存在统计学上的直接显著关系。由于新生儿重症监护病房护士的临床能力至关重要,应考虑一些变量,如对护理职业的兴趣、就业状况、新生儿重症理论和实践培训课程以及加班工作时长。
