Immunoenzymatic test ELISA performed in the group of 243 infants hospitalized during one year because of the acute diarrhoea revealed rotaviruses in 86 of them (35.4%). During the Winter season, this percentage exceeded 55%. Clinical analysis including detailed symptomatology and laboratory findings enabled the conclusion that the diagnosis of diarrhoea caused by rotaviruses is not possible basing on the little characteristic clinical picture and course. However, there are some features helpful in the preliminary diagnosis. Anti-rotavirus antibodies were detected in 52% of the examined infants and in about 85% of school-children hospitalized for other reasons.
