Until the early 20century enucleation of the eyeball or its partial excision were the basic treatments for ocular cancer. The discovery of X-rays by Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen (1845-1923) offered new possibilities to the treatment of ocular cancer either as mono or as adjuvant therapy. Nowdays this treatment is more sophisticated.
