Abstract

Swellings in the axilla especially in women are always viewed with suspicion owing to a large number of these being associated with breast carcinoma presenting as nodal metastasis. In a country like India, tuberculous lymphadenopathy is also amongst the first differentials. We present a case of a woman with right sided axillary swelling mimicking lymphadenopathy which on Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology (FNAC) turned out to be fibroadenoma of the ectopic breast tissue. This condition is a rare occurrence in Ectopic Breast Tissue (EBT) as opposed to that in the normal breast, the most common pathology affecting ectopic breast being carcinomas.

腋窝处出现肿块，尤其在女性中，总是令人怀疑，因为其中大量肿块与表现为淋巴结转移的乳腺癌有关。在印度这样的国家，结核性淋巴结病也位列首要鉴别诊断疾病之中。我们报告一例右侧腋窝肿块酷似淋巴结病的女性病例，经细针穿刺抽吸细胞学检查（FNAC）结果显示为异位乳腺组织的纤维腺瘤。与正常乳腺不同，这种情况在异位乳腺组织（EBT）中很少见，影响异位乳腺的最常见病理类型是癌。
