Babesiosis, the hemolytic disease caused by , which is a tick-transmitted obligate intraerythrocytic protozoan parasite. This disease is responsible for significant mortality and morbidity rates and enormous economic losses to the livestock industry in tropical and subtropical regions worldwide. In this study, blood samples were collected from 141 pet dogs from Gansu, China, and analyzed for or spp. infection using specific PCR and sequencing based on 18S rRNA gene fragments. The results indicated that 18S rRNA gene sequences from 11 samples were similar to the 18S rRNA gene sequences in (2) and (9). The total infected rates of and were 1.4% (2/141) and 6.4% (9/141), respectively. This represents the first molecular report of in dogs worldwide and of in dogs from Gansu province of China. Furthermore, the finding of in dogs may represent the common infection of this parasite occurring in Gansu.
巴贝斯虫病是由蜱传播的专性红细胞内原生动物寄生虫引起的溶血性疾病。这种疾病导致了很高的死亡率和发病率,给全球热带和亚热带地区的畜牧业造成了巨大的经济损失。在本研究中,从中国甘肃的141只宠物狗采集血样,基于18S rRNA基因片段,使用特异性PCR和测序分析犬巴贝斯虫或吉氏巴贝斯虫感染情况。结果表明,11个样本的18S rRNA基因序列与犬巴贝斯虫(2个)和吉氏巴贝斯虫(9个)的18S rRNA基因序列相似。犬巴贝斯虫和吉氏巴贝斯虫的总感染率分别为1.4%(2/141)和6.4%(9/141)。这是全球范围内犬巴贝斯虫感染犬类的首次分子报告,也是中国甘肃省犬类感染吉氏巴贝斯虫的首次分子报告。此外,在犬类中发现吉氏巴贝斯虫可能表明该寄生虫在甘肃普遍存在感染情况。
