The initial experience with a new combined grasping, bipolar coagulating and dissecting device - "Koagulotom" - for laparoscopic tubal sterilisation in 116 women is reported. The whole procedure can be performed without changing instruments. Simultaneously, a histological specimen from both tubes can be obtained for forensic purposes. The operating time and risks can be reduced due to the simple and safe handling of this combined device. It may be expected that the routine histological identification of two complete tubal segments will significantly reduce the failure rate caused by incorrect sterilisation or by other method-inherent problems.
