[Electrocardiogram of the athlete].

The EKG of an athlete may present various alterations, appearing with time and representing the normal cardiac repercussion of an intense and regular physical activity. The vagotonia linked to this activity explain rhythmic abnormalities and conduction alterations. The left ventricular hypertrophy, often noticed, is probably more frequent actually than on the EKG. As for repolarization disorders, at rest or exertion, one must be cautious for their interpretation, since they may have been induced by sport but a coronaropathy remains possible. A routine EKG can also disclose unexpected abnormalities as in anyone; the particular case of complete A-V blocks and WPW is considered here.
