In response to rising incidence and mortality we aimed to investigate the demographic characteristics of patients with operative breast cancer in our region.
We performed a retrospective study of 224 patients who underwent surgery for breast cancer at King Saud University Medical City, Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia between 2005 and 2012. Results: We identified a young population overall with a mean age of 48.8±12.2 years (range: 26-93 years). Survival rate were however similar across all age groups with a 10-year overall survival of 87%. Conclusion: Patients in our study were generally younger than those with breast cancer in Western nations. However, unlike Western countries, young age was not associated with worse outcomes.
