Abstract

OBJECTIVE

To find differences between One-Correct and One-Best multiple-choice questions with relation to student scores, post-exam item analyses results and student perception.

METHODS

This comparative cross-sectional study was conducted at the Dow University of Health Sciences, Karachi, from November 2010 to April 2011, and comprised medical students. Data was analysed using SPSS 18.

RESULTS

Of the 207 participants, 16(7.7%) were boys and 191(92.3%) were girls. The mean score in Paper I was 18.62±4.7, while in Paper II it was 19.58±6.1. One-Best multiple-choice questions performed better than One-Correct. There was no statistically significant difference in the mean scores of the two papers or in the difficulty indices. Difficulty and discrimination indices correlated well in both papers. Cronbach's alpha of paper I was 0.584 and that of paper II was 0.696. Point-biserial values were better for paper II than for paper I. Most students expressed dissatisfaction with paper II.

CONCLUSIONS

One-Best multiple-choice questions showed better scores, higher reliability, better item performance and correlation values.

目的

找出单项正确选择题与最佳选择题在学生成绩、考后试题分析结果及学生看法方面的差异。

方法

本比较性横断面研究于2010年11月至2011年4月在卡拉奇的道健康科学大学开展,研究对象为医学生。数据采用SPSS 18进行分析。

结果

207名参与者中,16名(7.7%)为男生,191名(92.3%)为女生。试卷I的平均成绩为18.62±4.7,试卷II的平均成绩为19.58±6.1。最佳选择题的表现优于单项正确选择题。两份试卷的平均成绩及难度指数均无统计学显著差异。两份试卷的难度和区分指数相关性良好。试卷I的克朗巴赫α系数为0.584,试卷II的为0.696。试卷II的点二列值优于试卷I。大多数学生对试卷II表示不满。

结论

最佳选择题成绩更好、可靠性更高、试题表现及相关性数值更佳。
