Abstract

A major transition has been recently realized in tissue engineering towards the acceleration of clinical translation with the exploitation of the mechanisms of in vivo tissue development that can assure the formation of authentic, complex tissue structures (developmental engineering). The use as implants of intermediate developmental tissue forms, developmental modules that can autonomously progress in development and be transformed to mature tissue forms has improved the clinical efficacy, and equally important gave the ability for its prediction. Interestingly, critical concepts for the properties of developmental modules that are now studied in systems biology were developed by ancient philosophers with impressive subtlety and prescience.

近年来,组织工程领域发生了重大转变,人们开始利用体内组织发育的机制来加速临床转化,从而确保形成真实、复杂的组织结构(发育工程)。将中间发育组织形式的发育模块用作植入物,这些模块可以自主发育并转化为成熟的组织形式,这提高了临床疗效,同样重要的是,使人们能够对其进行预测。有趣的是,系统生物学中现在正在研究的发育模块的关键概念,是由古代哲学家以令人印象深刻的微妙和先见之明提出的。
