Dermatologists function as consultants in the management of AIDS. They are consulted for care of cutaneous complications such as superficial infections (viral, dermatophyte, deep fungal, and bacterial). The management of these problems is similar to that in individuals with intact immune systems; however, these processes when associated with HIV infection may be more persistent and may recur.
