The antioxidant activity of eumelanin, a ubiquitous pigment in flora and fauna, constitutes one of its most fascinating physicochemical properties. To shed light on free radical scavenging vs redox facets of such activity, we applied hydrogen atom transfer- and electron transfer-based assays to pristine ink, eumelanin from ink, chemically controlled eumelanins and their precursor building blocks. Our work contributes to the rational use of the antioxidant properties of eumelanin for health, cosmetics and environmental applications.
真黑素是动植物中普遍存在的一种色素,其抗氧化活性是其最引人入胜的物理化学性质之一。为了阐明这种活性在自由基清除与氧化还原方面的情况,我们将基于氢原子转移和电子转移的分析方法应用于原始墨水、墨水中的真黑素、化学控制的真黑素及其前体结构单元。我们的工作有助于合理利用真黑素的抗氧化特性,以用于健康、化妆品和环境应用领域。
