CLINICAL/METHODICAL ISSUE: In this article, suitable imaging of stress reactions and stress fractures in athletes will be examined.
Diagnostic procedures include X‑ray, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and bone scintigraphy.
MRI represents the gold standard for these types of injuries.
Of all imaging techniques, MRI shows the highest sensitivity in terms of diagnostic and prognostic aspects in stress reactions and stress fractures.
Early performance of MRI to evaluate the staging, therapy and prognosis of the healing process is recommended.
