Abstract

AIMS

Aelurostrongylus abstrusus (Railliet, 1898) and Angiostrongylus chabaudi (Biocca, 1957) are important cardiopulmonary metastrongyloids in felids. This case report describes, for the first time, a natural and patent mixed infection caused by A. abstrusus and A. chabaudi in a European wildcat (Felis silvestris silvestris) from Bosnia and Herzegovina. Most important, this is a rare report of fatal parasitism in wildlife, involving a severe verminous bronchopneumonia and gastrointestinal nematode and cestode infection with Toxocara cati, Taenia taeniaeformis, Aonchotheca putorii, and Ancylostoma spp.

RESULTS

Emphasis is set to detailed description of granulomatous, interstitial verminous bronchopneumonia, morphological description of A. abstrusus and A. chabaudi, and molecular confirmation of diagnosis by triplex PCR.

CONCLUSION

The data provided in this study contribute to the knowledge on the epizootiology and pathological effect of these neglected metastrongyloids in European wildcat.

目的

隐匿猫圆线虫（1898年，雷耶，Railiet）和沙氏血管圆线虫（1957年，比奥卡，Biocca）是猫科动物重要的心肺后圆线虫。本病例报告首次描述了波斯尼亚和黑塞哥维那的一只欧洲野猫（森林野猫指名亚种，Felis silvestris silvestris）自然发生且确诊的隐匿猫圆线虫和沙氏血管圆线虫混合感染。最重要的是，这是野生动物致命寄生虫病的罕见报告，涉及严重的蠕虫性支气管肺炎以及胃肠道线虫和绦虫感染，病原体包括猫弓首蛔虫、带状绦虫、猫毛线虫以及钩口线虫属。
