RECOMMENDATION
Though literature specific to total ankle arthroplasty (TAA) is lacking, based on recommendations for the management of hip and knee arthroplasties, the choice of antibiotic should be made based on the identification and sensitivities of the infecting organism(s). Dosing, frequency, and route of administration of antibiotics may be determined in consultation with an infectious disease specialist and by taking into account the patient's weight and comorbidities, such as renal impairment and the antibiogram.
