Abstract

BACKGROUND

With the popularity of smartphones, cervical spondylosis is becoming more and more common among young people. The aim of this study was to investigate the association between excessive smartphone use and cervical disc degeneration in young patients suffering from chronic neck pain.

METHODS

A total of 2438 young patients suffering from chronic neck pain were included into this study. All patients underwent the Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) examination of the cervical spine. The degree of cervical disc degeneration, the dependent variable, was evaluated by Cervical Disc Degeneration Scale (CDDS) which was developed from Pfirrmann classification. Smartphone use, the primary independent variable, was assessed by Smartphone Addiction Scale (SAS).

RESULTS

In all, 52.9% patients were categorized as smartphone overuse. Patients with overuse of smartphones had higher CDDS scores than those who did not use smartphone excessively.

CONCLUSIONS

The results indicate that cervical disc degeneration may be associated with excessive smartphone use, such use may lead to cervical spondylosis.

背景

随着智能手机的普及,颈椎病在年轻人中越来越常见。本研究的目的是调查慢性颈部疼痛的年轻患者中过度使用智能手机与颈椎间盘退变之间的关联。

方法

本研究共纳入2438例患有慢性颈部疼痛的年轻患者。所有患者均接受了颈椎磁共振成像(MRI)检查。颈椎间盘退变程度作为因变量,采用基于Pfirrmann分类法制定的颈椎间盘退变量表(CDDS)进行评估。智能手机使用情况作为主要自变量,通过智能手机成瘾量表(SAS)进行评估。

结果

总体而言,52.9%的患者被归类为过度使用智能手机。过度使用智能手机的患者CDDS评分高于未过度使用智能手机的患者。

结论

结果表明,颈椎间盘退变可能与过度使用智能手机有关,这种使用可能导致颈椎病。
