Abstract
Two cases of podoconiosis (endemic non-filarial elephantiasis of the lower legs) are described. Microcrystals were demonstrated in lymph node biopsies by scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive x-ray analysis techniques. The findings were compatible with the elements present in black lava soil and red clay soil, respectively.
