The influence of conceptual models on theory development efforts stemming from NAACOG research priorities is discussed. Examples are given to illustrate the guidelines for theory development provided by seven conceptual models of nursing. In addition, a conceptual-theoretical-empirical structure for use in developing and testing theories and identifying tools for data collection is described.
