Arterial pressure in the ophthalmic artery was studied in 73 patients (135 eyes) with autoimmune thyroiditis in different thyroid function. A rise of diastolic and systolic pressure in the ophthalmic artery was noted in all groups of patients. It could be accounted for by a high degree of activation of the hypothalamic region as a result of sharp deficiency of thyroid hormones. Raised arterial pressure in the ophthalmic artery in patients with euthyroidism made it possible to recommend this method for early diagnosis of autoimmune thyroiditis.
