The authors report five cases of chronic subdural hematomas which suggested the diagnosis of cerebral ischemic stroke. After surgery all neurological signs returned to normal within 48 hours. The probable mechanism of such unusual course of illness is the reduction of cerebral blood flow caused by mechanical pressure of hematoma on cerebral tissue. The authors stress the importance of CT--scan in stroke patients.
