Iron-molybdenum cofactor and P-cluster are two essential components of FeMo nitrogenases. A MoFeS cluster has now been synthesized whose fragments topologically resemble the P-cluster of nitrogenase. The new compound (see picture) was characterized by single-crystal X-ray structure analysis and Moessbauer spectroscopy.
