The objective of this study was to analyze the effectiveness of two nonpharmacological interventions-traditional Brazilian diet (DieTBra), and extra-virgin olive oil (EVOO)-in terms of the reduction in pain and pain intensity in individuals with severe obesity. We conducted a 12-week parallel randomized clinical trial with 149 individuals (body mass index (BMI) ≥ 35 kg/m) who were randomized into three groups: supplementation with EVOO ( = 50), DieTBra ( = 49), and EVOO + DieTBra ( = 50). Of the total, 133 individuals with a mean BMI of 46.04 kg/m completed the study. By the end of the follow-up, there was a reduction in severe pain in the EVOO + DieTBra group ( = 0.003). There was a significant reduction in severe pain in the EVOO + DieTBra group (-22.7%); pain in the wrist and hand (-14.1%), upper back (-26.9%), and knees (-18.4%) in the DieTBra group; and reduction in hip pain (-11.1%) with EVOO consumption. We conclude that EVOO and DieTBra, either alone or in combination, are effective interventions to reduce pain intensity and pain in different regions in individuals with severe obesity, and have great potential for clinical application.
本研究旨在分析两种非药物干预措施(传统巴西饮食(DieTBra)和特级初榨橄榄油(EVOO))在降低严重肥胖个体疼痛和疼痛强度方面的效果。我们进行了一项为期 12 周的平行随机临床试验,共有 149 名个体(身体质量指数(BMI)≥35 kg/m²)参与,随机分为三组:EVOO 补充组(n=50)、DieTBra 组(n=49)和 EVOO+DieTBra 组(n=50)。其中,共有 133 名平均 BMI 为 46.04 kg/m²的个体完成了研究。随访结束时,EVOO+DieTBra 组的严重疼痛明显减轻(p=0.003)。EVOO+DieTBra 组的严重疼痛显著减轻(-22.7%);DieTBra 组的手腕和手部疼痛(-14.1%)、上背部疼痛(-26.9%)和膝盖疼痛(-18.4%)以及 EVOO 组的臀部疼痛(-11.1%)均有减轻。我们得出结论,EVOO 和 DieTBra 单独或联合使用,都是有效干预措施,可以减轻严重肥胖个体不同部位的疼痛强度和疼痛,具有很大的临床应用潜力。
