Abstract

AIM

To evaluate the safety of using 0.03% trypan blue under air for anterior capsule staining in cataract surgery.

METHODS

The current study involved a retrospective analysis of the medical records of 86 patients with vitreous hemorrhage, who underwent pars plana vitrectomy and cataract surgery. The patients were classified into two groups. The trypan blue group (=45) comprised patients who underwent anterior capsule staining with 0.03% trypan blue under an air bubble. The control group (=41) comprised of patients who underwent intracameral illuminator-assisted capsulorhexis. The status of endothelial cell density (ECD) in both the groups was analyzed.

RESULTS

The trypan blue group displayed significant decline in ECD at 1mo (7.91% loss, <0.001) and 3mo (9.65% loss, <0.001) after the surgery, whereas no significant changes were observed in the control group. Moreover, the number of patients who did not display a postoperative decline in ECD was significantly higher in the control group (43.9%; 18 patients) than in the trypan blue group (17.1%; 7 patients, =0.004).

CONCLUSION

Anterior capsule staining with trypan blue under the air bubble would not be as safe as the intracameral illuminator. The ECD loss might be attributed to the air bubble rather than to the deleterious effects of 0.03% trypan blue. Further studies are required to clarify this.

目的

评估在白内障手术中于空气环境下使用0.03%台盼蓝进行前囊染色的安全性。

方法

本研究对86例行玻璃体切割联合白内障手术的玻璃体积血患者的病历进行回顾性分析。将患者分为两组。台盼蓝组(n = 45)包括在气泡下用0.03%台盼蓝进行前囊染色的患者。对照组(n = 41)包括接受前房内照明器辅助撕囊的患者。分析两组患者的内皮细胞密度(ECD)情况。

结果

台盼蓝组术后1个月(损失7.91%,P < 0.001)和3个月(损失9.65%,P < 0.001)时ECD显著下降,而对照组未观察到显著变化。此外,术后ECD未下降的患者数量在对照组(43.9%;18例患者)显著高于台盼蓝组(17.1%;7例患者,P = 0.004)。

结论

在气泡下用台盼蓝进行前囊染色不如前房内照明器安全。ECD损失可能归因于气泡而非0.03%台盼蓝的有害影响。需要进一步研究以阐明这一点。
