Abstract

Multiple studies have shown that Helicobacter pylori infection is associated with a lower prevalence of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Besides chronic active gastritis (CAG) resulting from gastric infection with H pylori, pathologists have noticed another form of CAG, which is unrelated to H pylori infection and seems to cluster in patients with IBD. The aim of the present study was to compare the prevalence of H pylori-negative and H pylori-positive CAG in patients with IBD, and microscopic colitis (MC).
