Happiness and achievement motivation are two important concepts in students' lives. Therefore, this study was aimed at investigating the association between happiness and achievement motivation in undergraduate nursing students and examining their relationship with students' demographic characteristics.
A descriptive correlational study was undertaken; 255 undergraduate nursing students enrolled in one nursing school in an urban area of Iran during the academic year 2017-2018 were included in the study using census method sampling. The demographic data questionnaire, Oxford Happiness Questionnaire (OHQ), and Hermans Achievement Motivation Questionnaire (HAMQ) were used for data collection. Data were analyzed using univariate analysis and multivariate linear regression analysis.
The total mean (SD) of happiness and achievement motivation scores were 40.73 (11.20) and 82.61 (7.50), respectively. There was a direct significant correlation between happiness and achievement motivation ( = 0.36, < 0.001). An inverse significant association between happiness and students 21-24 years old ( = -3.99, < 0.03) was found. There was a direct significant association between happiness and being married ( = 5.33, = 0.03) and interest in nursing ( = 4.78, = 0.02). Additionally, achievement motivation was associated directly with female gender ( = 1.93, = 0.03) and interest in nursing ( = 3.71, = 0.005) and inversely associated with studying in the fourth academic year ( = -3.06, = 0.03) and history of course drops ( = -3.45, = 0.002).
Our study indicated that there was a direct significant relationship between happiness and achievement motivation in undergraduate nursing students. Therefore, officials and nursing education lecturers should consider programs to increase students' happiness, such as counseling or emotional support programs and workshops.
幸福感和成就动机是学生生活中的两个重要概念。因此,本研究旨在调查本科护理学生幸福感与成就动机之间的关系,并探讨其与学生人口统计学特征的关系。
本研究采用描述性相关性研究方法,采用整群抽样法,选取 2017-2018 学年伊朗一城市区一所护理学校的 255 名本科护理学生作为研究对象。使用人口统计学数据问卷、牛津幸福感问卷(OHQ)和赫尔曼成就动机问卷(HAMQ)收集数据。采用单变量分析和多元线性回归分析进行数据分析。
幸福感和成就动机的总分分别为 40.73(11.20)和 82.61(7.50)。幸福感和成就动机之间存在直接显著相关性( = 0.36, < 0.001)。幸福感与 21-24 岁学生之间存在负相关( = -3.99, < 0.03)。幸福感与已婚( = 5.33, = 0.03)和对护理的兴趣( = 4.78, = 0.02)之间存在直接显著相关性。此外,成就动机与女性( = 1.93, = 0.03)和对护理的兴趣( = 3.71, = 0.005)呈正相关,与第四学年学习( = -3.06, = 0.03)和课程不及格史( = -3.45, = 0.002)呈负相关。
本研究表明,本科护理学生的幸福感与成就动机之间存在直接显著关系。因此,官员和护理教育讲师应考虑增加学生幸福感的方案,如咨询或情感支持计划和工作坊。
