Weaver mutant mice lose mainly cerebellar granule cells. Motor abnormalities included less activity in a hole-board test and a loss of balance in two equilibrium tests. It was noted that the weaver mutants also displayed paw clasping responses when held by the tail of a sort never seen in normal mice. The role of the cerebellum in these abnormalities is discussed.
