Abstract

Disulfiram (DS) (200 mg/kg for 3 days) decreases contents of GABA, phenylalanine, histidine, cystathionine, methionine, ornithine, leucine and lysine. The effect of DS is potentiated by ethanol (1 g/kg). In this case concentrations of alanine, valine, isoleucine and tyrosine additionally fall. Probable roles of GABA-ergic system and amino acids--precursors, neurotransmitters in the realization of therapeutic and, perhaps, side effects of DS are discussed. Additive effects of DS and its combination with ethanol indicates a significant contribution of acetaldehyde to the mentioned changes.
