Assortative mating in a contemporary British population.

An account is given of the similarity between husbands and wives for a number of characters including height, weight, age, social class, education and geographical locality. There is positive assortative mating for all characters examined. Assortative mating for height and weight in this large British sample (N = 6192) is shown to be largely independent of age, social and regional background.
