A retrospective review of the surgical records of 190 consecutive esotropia patients, with regard to the incidence of reoperation, is presented. More than one surgical procedure was required in 36% of the congenital esotropia patients followed for at least six months and in 52% of the congenital esotropia patients followed for a minimum of two years. Reoperation occurred in 9% of the partially accommodative esotropia patients and in 17% of the nonaccommodative esotropia patients. A decreasing incidence of reoperation is noted in more recent years.
