Abstract

Photobiomodulation (PBM) has therapeutic effects on wound healing, diabetic microangiopathy, and retinopathy. However, little is known about the use of PBM for the treatment of diabetes mellitus (DM). In this context, we aimed to evaluate the effects of PBM on pancreas morphology and insulin and glucose tolerance in an experimental model of DM. Thus, DM was induced by streptozotocin (STZ) (60 mg/kg). Subsequently, the rats were treated with PBM (808 nm and 30 J/cm ). After euthanasia, morphometric parameters and immunoreactivity for insulin and 8-OHdG were evaluated in the pancreas. The results showed that treated animals had higher values of body mass and higher values in the number of beta cells in the pancreas. In conclusion, PBM resulted in decreased weight loss in STZ-induced diabetic rats and presented a stimulatory effect on the pancreas of the treated animals, highlighting the promising effects of this therapy in the clinical condition of DM.

光生物调节作用(PBM)对伤口愈合、糖尿病微血管病变和视网膜病变具有治疗作用。然而,关于PBM用于治疗糖尿病(DM)的研究却知之甚少。在此背景下,我们旨在评估PBM对糖尿病实验模型中胰腺形态以及胰岛素和葡萄糖耐量的影响。因此,通过链脲佐菌素(STZ)(60mg/kg)诱导糖尿病。随后,对大鼠进行PBM治疗(808nm和30J/cm²)。安乐死后,评估胰腺的形态计量学参数以及胰岛素和8-羟基脱氧鸟苷的免疫反应性。结果显示,接受治疗的动物体重值更高,胰腺中β细胞数量也更多。总之,PBM可减少STZ诱导的糖尿病大鼠的体重减轻,并对接受治疗动物的胰腺产生刺激作用,突出了该疗法在糖尿病临床状况中的潜在疗效。
