Abstract

OBJECTIVE

To evaluate the effect of the mode of delivery on neonatal oxidative stress and dynamic thiol-disulfide homeostasis.

METHODS

Sixty women who were followed up in the Obstetrics and Gynecology clinic were included in this prospective study. Cord blood samples were obtained from women who underwent cesarean section (CS) and vaginal delivery (VD). Total oxidant status and total antioxidant status levels were measured by spectrophotometry. The dynamic thiol-disulfide balance was determined by colorimetry.

RESULTS

The total antioxidant status and oxidative stress index levels were higher and total oxidant status levels were lower in the VD group compared with the CS group. Native and total thiol levels were higher while disulfide levels were lower in the VD compared with the CS delivery group, while disulfide levels were higher in the CS group.

CONCLUSION

These results indicate that disulfide formation leads to decreased antioxidant capacity in women undergoing CS. Monitoring of dynamic thiol-disulfide levels may thus provide clinicians with important information on the oxidative stress status in newborns.

方法

本前瞻性研究纳入了在妇产科诊所随访的 60 名妇女。从行剖宫产术(CS)和阴道分娩(VD)的妇女中采集脐血样本。采用分光光度法测定总氧化剂状态和总抗氧化状态水平。通过比色法测定动态巯基-二硫键平衡。

结果

与 CS 组相比,VD 组的总抗氧化状态和氧化应激指数水平更高,总氧化剂状态水平更低。与 CS 分娩组相比,VD 组的天然巯基和总巯基水平更高,二硫键水平更低,而 CS 组的二硫键水平更高。

结论

这些结果表明,CS 会导致形成二硫键,从而降低妇女的抗氧化能力。因此,监测动态巯基-二硫键水平可以为临床医生提供有关新生儿氧化应激状态的重要信息。
