The present research aimed to review the clinical applications of botulinum toxin-A (BTX-A) injection into the anterior belly of the digastric muscle (ABDM) and to highlight the potential role of the BTX-A injection into ABDM in preventing postsurgical relapse. Five Class II malocclusion patients who underwent orthognathic surgery received BTX-A injections into both ABDM for the prevention of postoperative relapse. The relapse was evaluated using lateral cephalometric radiographs by comparing the postoperative cephalometric analyses at two different time points, postoperatively at 2 weeks (T), and long-term, at 9 months after the surgical intervention (T). The results demonstrated no significant differences between T and T for the Selle-Nasion-point A (SNA) angle, Selle-Nasion-point B (SNB) angle, point A-Nasion-point B (ANB) angle, mandibular length, and sagittal mandibular position. The patients exhibited stable occlusion without any signs of relapse after the surgery. A single BTX-A injection into the ABDM can effectively prevent postoperative relapse in Class II malocclusion patients, following orthognathic surgery. From a clinical perspective, in case of optimal dosage and procedure, BTX-A injection could be considered as the primary option for the prevention of postsurgical relapse for Class II malocclusion patients.
本研究旨在回顾A型肉毒毒素（BTX-A）注射至二腹肌前腹（ABDM）的临床应用，并强调BTX-A注射至ABDM在预防术后复发中的潜在作用。五名接受正颌手术的安氏II类错牙合患者接受了双侧ABDM的BTX-A注射以预防术后复发。通过比较手术干预后两个不同时间点的术后头影测量分析来评估复发情况，术后2周（T1）和长期，手术干预后9个月（T2）。结果显示，在T1和T2时，蝶鞍-鼻根点A（SNA）角、蝶鞍-鼻根点B（SNB）角、点A-鼻根点B（ANB）角、下颌长度和下颌矢状位置之间无显著差异。患者术后咬合稳定，无任何复发迹象。单次BTX-A注射至ABDM可有效预防正颌手术后安氏II类错牙合患者的术后复发。从临床角度来看，在剂量和操作最佳的情况下，BTX-A注射可被视为预防安氏II类错牙合患者术后复发的主要选择。
