Abstract

• Penetrating chest injuries vary in presentation and are associated with mortality. • Pericardial compliance and rate of bleeding cause hemodynamic lability. • Objective judgment of the mechanism of injury is needed to anticipate exact injuries. • Cardiac ultrasound with advanced 3D imaging is an increasingly accessible tool. • Defining the damage to the normal anatomy guides further definitive management.
