Involvement in discharge planning in acute-care hospitals can produce troubling ethical conflicts for social workers. Using case material, the authors present a model for analyzing these dilemmas. Exploration of available data, value systems, and decision-making dimensions of the situation at hand is suggested as a way of understanding a dilemma and moving toward necessary action.
