In Colombia, several species of Buthidae scorpions belonging to the genera and coexist, and their stings are considered life-threatening to humans because of their venom neurotoxins. Despite previous studies focusing on neurotoxins from these scorpion genera, little is known about the enzymes present in their venoms and their relationship with whole venom toxicity.
Here, using proteomic and biochemical protocols the enzymatic activities of the venoms of three Colombian scorpion species, and n. sp. aff. were compared to establish the presence and absence of enzymes such as phospholipases, hyaluronidases, and proteases that could be related to venom toxicity. was positive for hyaluronidases, n. sp. aff. for proteases, and exhibited activity for all three mentioned enzymes.
This information provides valuable insights into the specific enzyme diversity of each species' venom and their potential role in venom toxicity, which could contribute to the development of better treatments and prevention strategies for scorpion envenomation.
在哥伦比亚,属于不同属的几种钳蝎科蝎子共存,由于其毒液中的神经毒素,它们的蜇刺被认为对人类有生命威胁。尽管之前的研究聚焦于这些蝎子属的神经毒素,但对其毒液中存在的酶以及这些酶与全毒液毒性的关系了解甚少。
在此,使用蛋白质组学和生化方法,比较了三种哥伦比亚蝎子物种(分别为[具体物种1]、[具体物种2]和近缘新物种[具体物种3])毒液的酶活性,以确定是否存在可能与毒液毒性相关的酶,如磷脂酶、透明质酸酶和蛋白酶。[具体物种1]的毒液对透明质酸酶呈阳性反应,近缘新物种[具体物种3]的毒液对蛋白酶呈阳性反应,而[具体物种2]的毒液对上述三种酶均有活性。
这些信息为了解每个物种毒液的特定酶多样性及其在毒液毒性中的潜在作用提供了有价值的见解,这可能有助于开发更好的蝎子蜇伤治疗和预防策略。
