Maintaining Physical Health in Individuals with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy Through Telerehabilitation.

Abstract

AIMS

To investigate the effects of a telerehabilitation program on walking performance, lower and upper extremity function, fall frequency, respiratory function, and satisfaction in individuals with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD).

METHODS

Thirty children (mean age 8.8 ± 4.2 years) were ambulant (Group 1), and 12 youth (18.5 ± 4.7 years) were non-ambulant (Group 2). The telerehabilitation program was applied by physiotherapists for 24 sessions (3 days/week). The 10-meter walking test, stand up from the supine position test, the modified upper extremity performance test, repetition of Lower and upper extremity movements, and the single breath count (SBC) test were administered. Fall frequency and satisfaction level were also recorded.

RESULTS

Significant improvement was found after telerehabilitation in upper extremity performance, repetition of lower and upper extremity movements, fall frequency, and SBC scores in Group 1. Changes in the 10-minute Walk and Stand Up from the Supine Position tests were not significant. There was a significant improvement in SBC scores in Group 2. Satisfaction with the service was 88%.

CONCLUSIONS

The 8-week telerehabilitation program was effective in improving aspects of upper and lower extremity function, fall frequency, pulmonary function, and satisfaction levels in individuals with DMD.

目的

研究远程康复计划对杜氏肌营养不良症(DMD)患者的步行能力、上下肢功能、跌倒频率、呼吸功能和满意度的影响。

方法

30 名儿童(平均年龄 8.8±4.2 岁)可自主移动(第 1 组),12 名青少年(18.5±4.7 岁)不可自主移动(第 2 组)。由物理治疗师应用远程康复计划进行 24 次治疗(每周 3 天)。进行 10 米步行测试、仰卧位起身测试、改良上肢功能测试、上下肢运动重复次数测试和单次呼吸计数(SBC)测试。同时记录跌倒频率和满意度。

结果

远程康复后,第 1 组的上肢功能、上下肢运动重复次数、跌倒频率和 SBC 评分显著提高,10 分钟步行测试和仰卧位起身测试的变化不显著。第 2 组的 SBC 评分也显著提高。对服务的满意度为 88%。

结论

8 周的远程康复计划可有效改善 DMD 患者的上下肢功能、跌倒频率、肺功能和满意度。
