The etiology and pathogenesis of ganglion cysts have not yet been completely illucidated. After surgical intervention there are recurrence rates of more than 30% described in the literature. Out of 425 operated patients a total of 348 patients could be reexamined. Recurrence rates as well as pre- and postoperative complaints are discussed.
