Within the last 2 decades, considerable emphasis has been placed upon minimally invasive techniques utilizing tubular retractors and conscious sedation. Innovation in materials engineering, visualization technology such as endoscopes, and enabling technologies such as augmented reality and robotics have served to enhance the procedures and their outcomes.
