Abstract

AIM

The aim of this study was to study the effect of Molar Incisor Hypomineralisation (MIH) on Oral Health-Related Quality of Life (OHRQoL) in children at the mixed dentition stage and correlate it with their caries experience.

SUBJECTS AND METHODS

One hundred two children aged from 8 to 10 years were recruited, 51 with MIH and 51 as control. Caries experience was recorded using DMFT/deft and ICDAS II. MIH-TNI index was used for classifying MIH severity. CPQ with its Arabic version was used to evaluate OHRQoL. Mann-Whitney U test and Kruskal-Wallis test were used for comparisons (p ≤ 0.05).

RESULTS

The mean value for CPQ in MIH group was 24.67 (±11.84; median 23; range 6-55) in comparison to 21.04 (±12.3; median 18; range 2-54) for the control group, with no significant difference between groups (p = 0.109). A significantly higher value (p = 0.011) was recorded in patients with MIH-TNI 4 mean 32.16 (±13.9; median 35; range from 7 to 55) in comparison to other categories of MIH.

CONCLUSION

Children with and without MIH, with similar caries experience showed no difference in OHRQoL. However, the presence of the severe form of MIH including hypersensitivity and enamel disintegration negatively impacted those children's OHRQoL.

目的
