Nurses working in the emergency department increasingly face moral distress due to the nature of their profession, negatively affecting their love and compassion toward the patient. Therefore, this study sought to determine the correlation between moral distress and compassion fatigue in the nurses of the emergency departments of the hospitals in Ardabil.
The current cross-sectional (descriptive correlational) study was conducted using consensus sampling. The study population comprised all nurses working in the emergency departments of hospitals in Ardabil in 2022. Data were gathered using two standard questionnaires, comprising compassion fatigue by Figley (2002) and moral distress by Hamric (2012). The data were analysed using SPSS-20 software and descriptive and inferential statistics, including independent T-test, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and one-way ANOVA.
Moral distress was higher than average in governmental hospitals (2.12±0.58) and below average in private and social security hospitals (1.72±0.68). Besides, the nurses' compassion fatigue was lower than average in all studied hospitals (2.17±0.43). There was also a significant positive correlation equal to 0.29 between moral distress and compassion fatigue in emergency department nurses (<0.01).
According to the results, the higher the level of moral distress, the greater the compassion fatigue. The level of moral distress and its relationship with compassion fatigue reflects the impact of conditions causing moral distress on the quality of care and the necessity to prevent such conditions by providing appropriate solutions. Informing nurses about moral distress and its consequences and providing periodic counseling can contribute to its identification and control.
由于职业性质,急诊科护士越来越多地面临道德困扰,这对他们对患者的关爱和同情心产生了负面影响。因此,本研究旨在确定阿尔达比勒市医院急诊科护士的道德困扰与同情疲劳之间的相关性。
本横断面(描述性相关性)研究采用共识抽样法进行。研究对象为2022年在阿尔达比勒市医院急诊科工作的所有护士。使用两份标准问卷收集数据,包括菲格利(2002年)编制的同情疲劳问卷和哈姆里克(2012年)编制的道德困扰问卷。使用SPSS - 20软件对数据进行分析,并采用描述性和推断性统计方法,包括独立样本t检验、皮尔逊相关系数和单因素方差分析。
政府医院护士的道德困扰高于平均水平(2.12±0.58),私立和社会保障医院护士的道德困扰低于平均水平(1.72±0.68)。此外,在所有研究医院中,护士的同情疲劳均低于平均水平(2.17±0.43)。急诊科护士的道德困扰与同情疲劳之间也存在显著正相关,相关系数为0.29(<0.01)。
根据研究结果,道德困扰水平越高,同情疲劳程度越大。道德困扰水平及其与同情疲劳的关系反映了导致道德困扰的状况对护理质量的影响,以及通过提供适当解决方案来预防此类状况的必要性。让护士了解道德困扰及其后果并提供定期咨询有助于识别和控制道德困扰。
