Abstract

Species description based on the pictorial keys of morphological characters of female tick parasitizing wild Taiwan cobra snake () was firstly described in Taiwan. Molecular analysis based on the 16S mitochondrial gene sequences was performed by comparing eight ticks from Taiwan with other species documented in GenBank. In addition, two and two species were used as outgroups. All these Taiwan specimens constructing a monophyletic group which is genetically affiliated with and it can be discriminated from other species. This study provides the first species description and determines the genetic identity of adult ticks parasitizing wild Taiwan cobra snake. Further investigations focused on its ability to carry various tick-borne pathogens will help to illustrate the medical importance on human health in Taiwan.

基于寄生在野生台湾眼镜蛇()上的雌性蜱形态特征的图谱式检索表进行的物种描述首次在台湾发表。通过将来自台湾的8只蜱与GenBank中记录的其他蜱物种进行比较,基于16S线粒体基因序列进行了分子分析。此外,还使用了两种其他蜱物种作为外类群。所有这些台湾标本构成了一个单系群,在基因上与相关,并且可以与其他蜱物种区分开来。本研究首次进行了物种描述,并确定了寄生在野生台湾眼镜蛇上的成年蜱的基因身份。进一步针对其携带各种蜱传病原体能力的研究将有助于阐明其对台湾人类健康的医学重要性。
