Schwannomas are benign tumors originating from the nerve sheath. Extracranial schwannomas account for 25-45% of schwannomas in the head and neck region. This study aimed to evaluate the clinical presentation, diagnostic modalities, and postoperative outcomes of extracranial non-vestibular head and neck schwannomas and to discuss the findings in the context of the literature.
Medical records of patients who underwent surgical treatment for extracranial schwannomas between 2014 and 2022 were retrospectively reviewed. A total of 25 patients met the inclusion criteria and were included in the study.
The mean age of the patients was 49 years, with a male-to-female ratio of 16/9. The most common presenting symptom was painless swelling. The face was the most affected site, followed by the oropharynx and scalp. Preoperative imaging was performed in nine patients, with ultrasound being the preferred modality. Preoperative biopsy was conducted in only two patients. The mean follow-up duration was 54 months, with no reported recurrences.
This study represents the largest national series of extracranial head and neck schwannomas, providing valuable insights into their clinical presentation, diagnostic approach, and long-term outcomes.
施万细胞瘤是起源于神经鞘的良性肿瘤。颅外施万细胞瘤占头颈部施万细胞瘤的25% - 45%。本研究旨在评估颅外头颈部非前庭施万细胞瘤的临床表现、诊断方法及术后结果，并结合文献讨论相关发现。
回顾性分析2014年至2022年间接受颅外施万细胞瘤手术治疗患者的病历。共有25例患者符合纳入标准并纳入本研究。
患者的平均年龄为49岁，男女比例为16/9。最常见的症状是无痛性肿胀。面部是最常受累部位，其次是口咽和头皮。9例患者进行了术前影像学检查，超声是首选检查方式。仅2例患者进行了术前活检。平均随访时间为54个月，无复发报告。
本研究是国内最大规模的颅外头颈部施万细胞瘤系列研究，为其临床表现、诊断方法及长期预后提供了有价值的见解。
