Abstract

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

To compare the surgical outcome of Vicryl Rapide and Prolene sutures in skin closure of patients operated for unilateral and bilateral cleft lip in our, Craniofacial Unit from 2013 to 2015.

MATERIALS AND METHODS

A total of 100 patients were included in the study who were randomly divided into the Vicryl rapide group ( = 50) and prolene group ( = 50). Clinical assessment was done for inflammation, infection, dehiscence, scarring, and esthetic outcome. Also, the duration of hospital stay, the need for general anesthesia for suture removal, and the expenditure of the surgery were considered. A subjective assessment was done based on the patient observer scar assessment scale (POSAS). Follow-ups were scheduled at 1 week, 1 month, 3 months, and 6 months.

RESULTS

Prolene had significantly less scar and a better color match with adjacent skin than vicryl rapide; whereas vicryl rapide is economic and reduces hospital stay as it does not require additional general anesthesia exposure for suture removal. Post-operative complications were similar in both groups.

CONCLUSION

Vicryl Rapide is as good as prolene as a suture material of choice in terms of postoperative complications. Thus, both these materials have their advantages and disadvantages and can be equivalently used in skin closure for cleft lips.

目的

比较2013年至2015年在我们颅面外科接受单侧和双侧唇裂手术患者的皮肤缝合中,薇乔快速缝线和普理灵缝线的手术效果。

材料与方法

本研究共纳入100例患者,随机分为薇乔快速缝线组(n = 50)和普理灵缝线组(n = 50)。对炎症、感染、裂开、瘢痕形成和美学效果进行临床评估。此外,还考虑了住院时间、拆线时是否需要全身麻醉以及手术费用。基于患者观察者瘢痕评估量表(POSAS)进行主观评估。随访安排在术后1周、1个月、3个月和6个月。

结果

与薇乔快速缝线相比,普理灵缝线形成的瘢痕明显更少,且与相邻皮肤的颜色匹配度更好;而薇乔快速缝线经济实惠,且由于拆线时无需额外的全身麻醉,缩短了住院时间。两组术后并发症相似。

结论

就术后并发症而言,薇乔快速缝线作为一种缝合材料与普理灵缝线一样好。因此,这两种材料都有其优缺点,在唇裂皮肤缝合中可等效使用。
